[Arab News] A Jordanian public prosecutor on Wednesday indicted a man who on Tuesday threatened to blow up the headquarters of the Islamic Action Front ...Jordan's branch of the Moslem Brüderbund... (IAF), the country's main opposition party, judicial sources said. Abdul Wahab Yamani, in his late 50s, was charged with causing a public annoyance, threatening others and entering a place without prior permission. Yamani arrived at the IAF building at Dhuhr prayers and threatened to blow up the building, accusing the Front of not being loyal to the king, and pretending to blow the building with an boom belt that he was wearing. He was later tossed in the calaboose by secret police who found that the man wore a wooden belt connected to rusty batteries. As the prosecutor issued the charge list, a group of Yamani's relatives and friends gathered outside the prosecutor's office to demand his release. They said that the defendant was a merchant in downtown Amman whose business was drastically affected by the series of demonstrations that swept the Jordanian capital and other major cities over the past three months. |
