Mexico police find secret home arsenal
2011-05-02
[Iran Press TV] Mexican police have found a hidden stockpile of weapons in an upscale neighborhood of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, a city notorious for drug violence and kidnappings.

Police discovered the arsenal, including three anti-aircraft guns, dozens of grenades, a grenade launcher, AK-47s and other high-powered weapons, in a basement hidden behind the mirrors of a home gym on Friday, The News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.
Hopefully nothing there can be traced back to Operation Gunrunner. Especially the anti-aircraft guns.
Several makes of machine guns, rifles, a shotgun and more than 26,000 ammunition cartridges along with 50 military uniforms, bulletproof vests, gas masks and three money-counting machines were also found in the basement, according to the Federal Police Commissioner of Ciudad Juarez Raul Avila Ibarra.

Police discovered the weapons by pressing a button near the floor that opened up the mirrors of the gym to a hidden room. They had been acting on an anonymous tip that kidnapped victims were in the house, but no one was reportedly found or jugged in the search.

More than 3,000 people were killed last year in what police claim to be a pie fight between the Sinaloa and Juarez narco mobs.

Ciudad Juarez, home to 1.3 million residents, has become infamous for unsolved kidnapping cases involving the brutal rape and murder of maquiladora workers over the past two decades. Some believe that the police are complicit in the crimes, while others blame narco mobs and even wealthy business men.
