No release of Bin Laden death pic
2011-05-04
Barack Obama, the US president, has told an American news channel that he decided not to release photos showing the body of Osama Bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader, after he was killed by US commandos.

Jay Carney, the White House spokesman, said Obama had consulted members of his national security team before taking his decision.

Carney said that in the interview with CBS, Obama had stressed it was important to keep photographic evidence from "floating around as incitement or propaganda tool".

"That is not who we are. We don't trot this stuff out as trophies," Obama was quoted as saying in the interview for the channel's "60 Minutes" programme. "There is no doubt that we killed Osama bin Laden. You will not see bin Laden walking on this Earth again," the president said.

#25  If Osama is dead, what one reason explains every reversal, stammer, and misstep of the Obama admin since?

I assert: they are afraid of legal ramifications internationally.

Blackout during raid on bin Laden compound

Doubts emerge about US version of events after Head of CIA admits there was no live video of bin Laden raid.

#23  No photos of a dead leader of Al Qaeda? Then tell your state run media to stop "spiking the football" for Al Qaeda by publishing photos of our troops in flag draped coffins.

#22  They are smart and clever. They just don't understand or relate to real Jacksonian Americans. They despise and condescend to them. They can do no other.

#21  It's amazing, it's a gift -- the O-Man manages to kark up the singlemost best-press event that he will probably ever have -- within 48 hours.
You betcher a** we wanted photographic proof, of the event, of his corpse leaking red stuff, of it going over the side of the Carl Vinson. Sorry - we want proof, we've got strong stomachs, after how many years of jihadi snuff videos and of CSI re-runs. And p**ing off the Moslem world? Hey, been there, done that, they get p***ed off and riot every weekend, so what else is new...
I just knew the Obama Administration would kark this up - I just didn't think they would do so on something so basic. Forgive me, I thought they had some intelligent people -- or at least people who were as clever as sewer rats -- who could have figured this out.

All we know is that he's not pushing up daisies...
Rather feeding some rather unsightly slimy creatures.
As he should.

#19  heh... heh... heh...

I must say - the idea of Binny being held deep underground in some super-secret CIA facility in the middle of nowhere - with everyone thinking he's dead and nobody even looking for him - being waterboarded on a regular basis, fed nothing but pork byproducts, .... appeals to my evil side.

But my good side eventually wins out and says we aren't like that.

#18  Last week we had the death of the "Birthers", this week it's the birth of the "Deathers". Trump should demand that the long form pictures of UBL's empty brainpan be released.

#17  It takes a really special kind of politician to screw up solid gold like this. Instead of just letting the event speak for itself ("heroic US commandos whack mass murderer") he's got to spin it for more.

#15 If so, he'd better be one hell of a swimmer.

#16  What do you mean? Is he pining for the fjords of Peshewar?

#15  hes not dead.

#14  At the WH press breifing Spox Carney feigned exhasberation when claiming the decision came only less then 48 hours after the incident. As if not a single person, ever, in the 9 months of planning (or proceeding 9 years for that matter) had even considerd the possibility of photgraphic evidence of Bin Ladens corpse. Nope, this one took them completly by surprise...off guard...we're talkin waaaayyyy outta left field here. And certainly it was nothing to be taken lightly either - Islamic sensibilities and all. No sir, this is the kinda thing that needed consultation. And finally after deep reflection and soul searching like no one other then The Obama can do...he made his decision. "We don't trot this stuff out as trophies". You know...like my cowboy predecessor did with the Hussien boyz.

Predictable.

Assholes.

#12  Bummer gets credit for doing one thing right during his administration. One thing and one thing only. And even that was set up during the previous administration of George Bush. Then, in the aftermath of his great victory, Bummer goes on the screw everything up. Every little thing.

#11  Didn't that Taiwan video show all that?
Posted by: CrazyFool   2011-05-04 15:45

#10  The best bet is to have tongue in cheek Photoshop contests, first "images from the raid", second of "Osama dead", third of him being dumped in the ocean and its aftermath, and fourth, of Osama in his new, permanent home in the afterlife.

#9  The problem is that Obungler didn't get 16 hours to sleep on it.

#8  Administration screw ups in the aftermath.

3.Letting the photo debate get out of control: The decision about whether to release images of a dead bin Laden is not an easy one. But the administration's conflicting statements and public agonizing has created an extended distraction. The White House has stumbled by violating one of Washington's iron rules: when something becomes famous inside the Beltway for not being released, the pressure from the media to release it becomes unrelenting.

My bet is looking good...

#7  What a contrast with the preparation and professionalism demonstrated by the men who took Osama down. Another reason Bush didn't want to appear with him for his victory lap tomorrow in NYC. Obungler just doesn't get it.

#6  BTW Mrs. Carney, your son is an idiot. Doesn't do the Irish proud.

#5  My money says a picture is leaked within the month...

#4  Not release the photos because "That is not who we are. We don't trot this stuff out as trophies"

As I recall the Donks aided and abetted by the MSM (our version of Pravda) didn't mind trotting out/leaking photos of Abu Ghraib for months during the Bush administration. The same for Gitmo. Just saying.

Skip the photos, how about just an accurate narrative of what happened during the raid for the American people?

#3  Obama had stressed it was important to keep photographic evidence from "floating around as incitement or propaganda tool"

Really. Wouldn't want to incite people like this.
Or Ted Rall and Pepe Escobar...

#2  Man I am so happy we have the amateur hour showing every day for 4 years. Makes me feel soooo confident about our national security.

#1  I didn't care one way or the other. This dithering really put a buzzkill on teh WH's victory. Amateur hour indeed. I also object to doing/not doing ANYTHING for the purpose of assuaging these 7th century schmucks' rage. They should be provoked, and when they respond uncivilly, put down hard. Remind them that they are the asshole of humanity
