NATO airstrike reportedly kills 12 children in Afghanistan
2011-05-29
An investigation is underway into reports that a coalition airstrike in southern Afghanistan killed a dozen children and two women. The civilians were killed Saturday in an airstrike against insurgents who were attacking NATO-led troops in the Nawzad district of the Helmand province.

The death toll, if confirmed, would make it the largest loss of civilian life this year as a result of an ISAF airstrike.
But since it happened on Obama's watch, it won't become big news - in the US, at least.
ISAF confirmed there was an attack, though it did not know whether civilians were killed. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Ronald Flesvig said, "We do know about the allegations."

Both ISAF and Afghan investigators were looking into the claims, which came from residents as well as the district governor, said Daud Ahamadi, the .

Residents said an that an ISAF helicopter conducted the airstrike, which hit two houses where women and children were staying.

#8  Karzai, as usual, has his panties in a wad over this. According to ABC News he wants coalition forces to "clear the operations with his forces". He says "uncoordinated operations will result in the killing of innocent civilians." Hmmmmm. But is he really worried about "innocent civilians" or does he want to warn the Talibunnies when an attack is coming?

#4  Cheez Frank, no need to goad us :-)

I say younger Talibs. I say the terrorists huddled in the madrassah there in the camp and gathered the young'ins close as human shields.
