Umatilla Chemical Weapons Demilitarization By November, Fines Levied
2011-07-22
US Army contractor Washington Demilitarization Co. is processing the chemical munitions stored at the Army's Umatilla Chemical Depot.

The State Department of Environmental quality has issued them nearly $250,000 in penalties for permit violations since December 2009, none of which are believed to endanger the public or cause contamination.

The 31 square mile depot is expected to finish destroying its inventory of chemical weapons by November. The depot has incinerated all of its VX and sarin inventories and roughly 75 percent of its mustard agents.
