Turner wins in NYC
2011-09-14
Republicans have scored an upset victory in a New York City House race that became a referendum on President Barack Obama's economic policies.
The Dems, including their press allies, would dearly love to ignore the role of policy towards Israel in this race. Respected ex-NYC mayor Koch campaigned for Turner on that basis.
Retired media executive and political novice Bob Turner defeated Democratic state Assemblyman David Weprin in a special election Tuesday to succeed Rep. Anthony Weiner, a seven-term Democrat who resigned in June after a sexting scandal.

The heavily Democratic district spanning parts of Queens and Brooklyn had never sent a Republican to the House. But frustration with the continued weak national economy gave Republicans the edge.

Turner has vowed to bring business practicality to Washington and push back on spending and taxes.

#25  Yes they can vote Donk next year if they wish. But they'll have an incumbent Pub congressman running in the new district, not a faceless, nameless Pub who has no chance in hell.

If I were the Donk congressman in such a district, with the way the polls are going now, I'd be worried. That's what Turner does for the Pubs.

#24  To keep a sense of perspective here, this is a district destined to vanish with redistricting. The special election provided a perfect opportunity to stick it to Obama with no real repurcusions since they could simply vote donkey next year.

I'd like to think its more than that, but it really seems more like a warning shot and not a harbringer.

#23  Maybe it is proof that people are learning how evil that democrat enterprise is. But, never under-estimate the stupidity of the American voter.

#22  And JFM takes it all the way in for the score! Good points.

#21  The only way it could increase more is if they adopted the Nazi policies toward jews.

Have you given a thoughta about left's concern about the Palestinians? Why them when Arabs were killing two hundred Blacks (and these weren't terrorists but most often women and children) in Sudan for every Palestinian killed by Israel and that without counting mass raopes and slavery on Blacks? Why them when Palestiniaans are fat from living on our dole while Black Sudanese were starving? Why them when they are about the only "Liberation movement" in the world who places bombs on mentally disabled people, who celebrates when one of them kills a two years old in cold blood and tries to bomb a maternity? (All of this is in Rantburg's archives). Why is the left so much in love with so repugnant people who in addition have it far better than Sudanese Blacks.

There is only one possible explanation: because both the PLO and the Hamas have told that their ultimate goal is not the destruction of Israel but finishing Hitler's work. That is why the left loves the Palestinians.

#20  Just you wait Darth.

#19  ...the prospect of increased anti-Semitism on the left.

The only way it could increase more is if they adopted the Nazi policies toward jews.

#18  I'd say the donks are thinking more and more about a primary challenge to Obama. Obama is following Carter's footsteps. Hillary? I hope not--that would result in more tired leftist policies. I think it's getting to the point where a donk might not be able to win. I'm thinking there might be another Pub/Tea Party sweep in Congress if things continue as are.

#17  But they'd die before they acknowledged said reality.
Posted by: anonymous2u   2011-09-14 09:36

#16  Don't forget the Donks are finally starting to mumble about the unsustainability of Social Security and Medicare. With reality starting to finally creep through the cracks of their multigenerational rhetoric used to bludgeon Trunks, those who've bought the lies are becoming 'uncomfortable' with said same reality.

#15  To clarify, I'm anticipating the REACTION to the (unfortunately) all too predicable insanity of the left to alienate mainstream voters.

Keep those cameras ready folks. Sunshine makes for a great disinfectant.

#14  Yes, I suppose I am. But honestly, in hindsight, theirs was no less a concern. These are men, not gods. Nor are their followers, angelic beings.

#13  Besoeker

You're sounding like the democrats in the run-up to Bush's re-election.

#12  Perhaps it is just that I haven't had caffeine this morning, but it sure sounds as if "My two cents" is applauding the prospect of increased anti-Semitism on the left.

I do hope I'm misreading that. We are already seeing outbreaks of domestic political violence erupting across this country. The Orthodox Jewish families in NYC, mostly of modest living standards and good family values, should neither face violence for this election nor serve as a popcorn opportunity.

#11  I just hope some cataclysmic event between now and January of 2013 doesn't set the stage for this bugger to set the constitution fully aside and declare himself emporer. Roosevelt (our first Food Stamp President) would have still been president well into the 1950's had he lived.

#10  this would have been a kick in the 'nads to Teh One™ if they weren't already in a jar on Michelle's mantle. A failure of epic proportions - I smell desperation and panic in the spinning
Posted by: Frank G   2011-09-14 08:16

#9  In some circles this will be spun as "rich joooos keeping the black man down". The fever swamps should generate enough raw overt anti-Semitisim among Obama supporters to alienate most Americans. I mean even more than Obama has.

Popcorn anyone?

#8  Democratic party leaders insisted the loss wasn't a harbinger of things to come. "It's a very difficult district for Democrats,'' said the Cat Lady Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, noting its Democratic margins there tend to be the second lowest of all the districts in New York City.
Except for the previous 90 years in a row the district elected a Democrat to Congress.

#7  Well, sure, since The One was not on the ballot, many disenfranchised, middle-class, working-folk voters were busy ... working, so more of the contry-club Pubs showed up. And that Nevada district had never, ever elected A Representative Of The Regular People.

[It's only sarcasm if you are not a lib.]
Posted by: Bobby   2011-09-14 05:55

#6  GOP won the NV election.
Posted by: DarthVader   2011-09-14 02:19

#5  And another one's under the bus! How's the NV special election going?
Posted by: Eric Jablow   2011-09-14 01:33

#4  At least the people of NY finally made a good decision. Hopefully it sticks.

Ain't holding my breath.
Posted by: DarthVader   2011-09-14 01:16

#3  Yet the press will still insist, this one election isn't a mandate against The One....... if nothing else, his stance against Israel may be his Waterloo...

Weprin, a 56-year-old Orthodox Jew and member of a prominent Queens political family, seemed a good fit for the largely white, working-class district, which is nearly 40 percent Jewish.

God bless his chosen people.

Turner has already spoken with Boehner.
Posted by: Sherry   2011-09-14 00:55

#2  Preliminary results match the last pre-vote poll: Turner 54% to Weprin 46% with more than 80% of the precincts reporting...In a district where three times as many are registered Democrats as are registered Republican.
Posted by: trailing wife   2011-09-14 00:45

#1  The Democrat supported gay marriage and the ground zero Mosque (he was the Jewish Candidate).

The Republican who was Catholic probably received a huge majority of the Orthodox jewish vote.

Ha ha.
