| #1 One parallel that I find disturbing is his purge of the senior military command. I am concerned that this is the m.o. of Islamists once they take over a country, as a prerequisite to aggressive war. This is based on the takeover of Iran, which also had a purge of its senior military command, many of whom were Zoroastrians. Then, while officially Saddam's Iraq is thought of as the aggressor, in truth the Iranians had been vigorously trying to stimulate the Iraqi Shiites to overthrow Saddam, hoping to extend their revolution. And with ideologues and fanatics leading their military, instead of US trained officers, the resultant butchery of Iranians was true to form. Despite their being no real change due to the war, Iranian killed outnumbered Iraqi dead by 3 to 1. But it was done the Muslim way. And that is what worries me about Erdogan. |
