You may remember Charles Djou (R). He was elected to the House from Hawai'i in a special election to fill a vacated seat. Most everyone knows that Hawai'i is as deep blue as they get, so he won because the myriad Dems running split the vote. Once it came to the regular election, The Dem party ( a wholy owned subsidiary of HGEA - Hawaii Government Employees Association) got behind a union stalwart and Djou lost his seat.
So what's an unemployed pol to do? Find a nice cushy sinecure and wait for the next election of course. Charles did just that.... of course, his new job is in Afghanistan. I got a letter from his wife (mass mailing to people who supported him... we're not that close...). Some of the high points:
"Charles has been handling detainee operations.
...
The area where Charles' unit is located has a high level of kinetic activity, meaning the unit is engaging the enemy on a daily basis.
...
Apparently, the Taliban fight so hard in this region because it is where much of the opium and cannabis are grown.
...
In terms of lifestyle, Charles, like most of his unit, works 18-hr days.
...
In terms of living conditions, Charles sleeps in a tent with 7 other soldiers.
...
There are no regular bathrooms, just port-a-potties.... Interestingly enough, the detainees in the base's detention facility have nicer amenities than Charles and their cells have more living space than what Charles has in his tent...
And we keep on electing Democats........ |
