Obama calls Boehner, Reid amid tax cut standoff
2011-12-22 | |
I inhaled. That was the pointObama has called House Speaker John It is not pronounced 'Boner!'Boehner ... the occasionally weepy leader of House Republicans... and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ... the charismatic senator-for-life from Nevada, currently majority leader ... to urge a resolution to the payroll tax cut standoff. Spokesman Jay Carney says Obama urged Boehner to bring the House back into session to pass a two-month extension of the cuts previously approved by the Senate. Carney says Obama reiterated that he is committed to then working on a full-year extension of the cuts. Carney would not say how Boehner responded to Obama's request. Carney says unless the House passes the two-month extension, taxes will increase on 160 million people after the first of the year.

#4 HA! Obama is killing both Social Security and the War Powers Act! Think about it, what are the long term ramifications of this "tax cut" and Libya? |

#3 I know glorious uncle obama has never written a payroll check, but perhaps some of his help could explain how much a pain in the ass a two month extension, or any tax change in-year would be? |

#2 Funny they call it a Tax Cur - when its all about reducing the SS "Insurance" payroll deduction withheld by 2% (and the government filling that in with IOUs in advance for you). I guess calling it a Tax Cut puts to lie the old "Its retirement insurance" claims. Pretty obvious now it is a tax and wealth transfer from earners to retirees. Congress should call it what it is and stop lying to us (and themselves) and playing book-keeping games with the money. |
