Chavez back in Venezuela
2012-04-06
CARACAS, Venezuela: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez returned home Wednesday night after his latest round of radiation therapy treatment in Cuba.

Chavez said he has been recovering well after a February surgery in Havana that removed a second tumor from his pelvic region.

"So far, fortunately there hasn't been any adverse reaction to the treatment," Chavez said. "All the exams that have been carried out have shown positive results of physical recovery."

Chavez underwent his second round of daily radiation treatments this week. He began the treatments in late March and has said he plans to have a total of five rounds to help prevent a recurrence of his illness.

#8  Question for the experts:

Is radiation enteritis an inevitable side effect of any effective treatment or is it more likely a result of medical malpractice?

I remember a minister once telling us what the problem is with death bed conversions...

"They might recover."

#2  Brazilian media is reporting that ailing Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez will make an emergency trip to Brazil after allegedly suffering intestinal burns during his radiation treatment in Cuba.

"So far, fortunately there hasn't been any adverse reaction to the treatment," Chavez said Wednesday, according to The Associated Press. "All the exams that have been carried out have shown positive results of physical recovery."

However, the Brazilian daily O Globo reported a rumor from Venezuelan journalist Nelson Bocaranda that Chávez could be headed to the hospital Sirio e Libanês in Sao Paulo.

#1  Does this call for the toast graphic I hope? A recurrence of tumors after chemo is not a good sign IIRC.
