Discussion Of Last Night's Debate
2012-10-04
by trailing wife
This thread was inspired by Devilstoenail, who so wanted to talk to someone about the debate last night.
Drudge Report headlines at the top of the page as of midnight:

ROUND WON: Romney Seized Offense in Debate...
You Were Fighting For Obamacare, Not Jobs...
'The Path We're Taking Is Not Working'...
FOURNIER: Cursed Obama Falls...
MSNBC MATTHEWS: 'What Was He Doing!'
Cutter takes swipe at Lehrer...
Andrew Sullivan: 'This was a disaster'...

Instapundit has a round-up, and no doubt others do as well.

I didn't think anyone made any major mistakes, but didn't really feel either candidate's performance was inspirational, while Mr. Wife thought President Obama would be more appealing to the generality of watchers.

What think you, dear Readers?

#27  Oer at FREEREPUBLIC, I saw a pic of Michelle standing on-stage at a slight distance away from the Bammer, + she definitely did NOT look happy.

As this is only a debate, + the first one, IMO prolly safe to say the FLOTUS will be itching for a rematch???

Next up is Biden versus Ryan.

#26  I thought it was mean how Mittens kept pointing out B-HO's multiple failures on national TV. Jobs, Gitmo, the economy, green energy, the list just keeps going. No wonder the guy felt bad.

The repeated "I agree with you but you're doing it wrong" bit was funny though. Nice work, Mitt.

P.S. I thought Jim Lehrer looked pretty good for being recently re-animated. Is NPR running a black bio-lab or did they contract with the Koreans?

#23  i thought the debate was much more even that what the media are saying. however, I do think that Romney improved his image substantially with average Americans and also independent voters.

#22  YS, That was good!
Team Romney needs to look at everything Mitt said, tear it down and fact check it. The Dems are going to do this and come out swinging. They cant discount a single number, a single point. The high dollar supporters of Obama are funneling cash into tearing his statements apart. NEVER TAKE YOUR ENEMY FOR GRANTED and get back to work, the election is not over!

#21  Rather than attempt something clever, I'm just gonna laugh #19 for a while. Yes, indeed.

#20  Holy crap, YS - that's a keeper! :-D

#19  this had to be going thru FLOTUS last night...

#18  To me, the ball that got hit out of the park was Romney INSISTING that the moderator adhere to the debate rules, and keeps at it until the bought "referee" breaks. Not once, but SEVERAL times.

I was gonna send Mitt half my play money for this month to help his campaign, but now I'm gonna send the entire amount.

#17  I am joining the MSM in blaming aging, helpless old white man moderator Jim Lehrer.
Posted by: Besoeker   2012-10-04 12:33

#16  Clint Eastwoods debate with Obama (ok, with Obama's chair) is still the favorite this election season.

#13  Even if the next debate is a "draw", I am really enjoying the left's wailing and gnashing of teeth over the destruction of their light bringer.

#12  The tingle Chris Matthews felt running down his leg was from peeing himself.

#11  2nd Presidential debate will cover foreign and domestic policy. Candy Crowley will try to get her guy Obama back on track act as a moderator and corner gal for Obama. Foreign and domestic policy will be the broad topic. It will be in a townhall format of supposedly undecided voters chosen by selected by Gallup.

Michael Moore tweeted that if Romney keeps going, Obama will vote for him.

McCain said that if this had been a fight, it would have been stopped.

CNNs flashpoll last night had Romney winning 67 to 25.

Obama is the kid who got awards for just being present--he didn't really have to do anything. He has been ensconced in a cocoon--not meeting with his security counsel, not giving press conferences, and any press conferences he has given, he has not answered any questions. The MSM has been protecting him. He is a celebrity; not a President.

#10  Four years of avoiding hard uncomfortable questions, picking up face time on the View and Letterman, getting all those rounds of golf in, surrounding yourself with sycophants, obviously prepares oneself for the Big One.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out.

#9  Didn't feel like screaming at the TV, so I stayed away. Sore throat, ya know.

#8  Again, folks...play that Han Solo quote in a continuous loop in your heads. Here's why:

2nd Presidential debate: Town hall format (look for the "I'm a conservative Republican but..." audience questioners who turn out to be SEIU business agents and adjunct professors of Marxist Studies), "moderated" by CNN Obamunist pit bull Candy Crowley. Mittens is going to face a hand-picked hostile moderator AND a hand-picked hostile audience.

#7  that was very enjoyable. Mitt crushed him...just read the wailing and gnashing of teeth on Lefty sites. Good thing for Zero that next week there's another debate to turn this around. A strong appearance by....uh..Joe Biden....

heh heh

Posted by: tipper   2012-10-04 03:23

#5  Workload at the office blew up my plans to leave early & catch the debate, but the commentary from leftoids is VERY illuminating. Example from Twitter: "This is what happens when u pick John Kerry as your debate coach." From Michael Moore.

That said, let's hope someone at Team Mittens has this vid on a continuous loop...

#4  MSNBC MATTHEWS: 'What Was He Doing!'

Sending a tingle up my leg. Bonehead.

He's probably still digesting what "The Emperor isn't wearing any clothes!" means.

#3  Crushing for our Champ, crushing.

#2  Anybody who needs debates after 3.5 years of Obama in power (can't call it "rule")...
Posted by: g(r)omgoru   2012-10-04 01:17

#1  If the generality of watchers found Obama more appealing, then we are already living in the film Idiocracy. Romney absolutely schooled Obamae - and what Ryan will do to Biden will be far, far worse.
