Health Dept.: Homeless Can't Eat Deer Meat
2013-02-26
[RADIO.FOXNEWS] The controversy started when someone being fed at the rescue mission complained about being fed deer meat.

Henry Martin, executive director of the mission, told Fox News they've been serving deer meat for years -- from deer chili to deer spaghetti...

Martin said he was extremely bothered by the way state health inspectors handled the situation.

"You would think we would have due process," he said. "But they meant to destroy the meat -- that's for sure."

The mission's chef asked if they could at least return the meat to the processing plant -- but the state officials said no.

"They actually took it out to the dumpsters, split the packages open and poured Clorox on it," Martin told Fox News.

#11  >Actually, they're religious fanatics without a god.

I think they're religious fanatics with themselves as God.

#10  You view these people as if they were rational (instead of fanatics without religion) BP.

Actually, they're religious fanatics without a god. The State is their religion and their god. And they will have to be crushed or they will win.

Their encirclement is nearly complete, I just pray they have made enough mistakes that we can defeat them. But I have no doubts that things are headed for a fight.

#9  Farm subsidies, as BP suggested are certainly an element. Type in your zipp code in the search box and see who makes money in your area by.... NOT growing crops.

#7  Think it's more likely that using deer meet isn't a subsidy to producers which seems to be to major role of the modern state, namely to protect rent-seeking.

#6  Venison cannot be purchased at supermarkets with EBT cards. Deer are non-domesticated and are harvested with firearms. Firearms are evil, which makes venison, through extension evil as well.

Use only your EBT card and 'free stuff' from the government.

#4  Several years ago, the leading lights of Seattle paid to have professionals shoot a bunch of geese that were pooping all over Green lake, but the Health Dept would not let them give the meat to the various shelters; instead the carcasses had to be taken to the dreaded'undisclosed locations' for burial......

#3  I wonder if this was the same state agency that thought it was just fine for the now permanently closed New Orleans Charity Hospital to keep its emergency generators below sea level, to have no helicopter pad, and to have no plan for emergency evacuation of patients and staff in case of local flooding.

#1  Confiscation without due process - that's what this is. Isn't there a constitutional amendment about this?

BTW - was there nothing wrong with the meat.

Campbell said the venison comes from deer management programs – where hunters have to kill a lot of deer.

“We ask our hunters once they fill up their own freezers to give the extra to the needy,” he said.

Once the deer is donated, a local processing plant prepares the meat for the shelters.

And hunters in the Sportsman’s Paradise have always responded to the call – including State Rep. Jeff Thompson.
