2013-04-05 |
U.S. President Barack Obama will meet soon with Sheik Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani of Qatar, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Jordanian King Abdullah II to discuss the Syrian conflict and other regional issues, the White House announced Friday. The Qatari leader plans to visit the White House in April 23, and the Jordanian King three days later. The talks with the king, to be held April 26, will focus on "Jordan's political and economic reforms, the humanitarian crisis in Syria, and additional regional issues of mutual concern," the statement said. Obama will then host Erdogan in Washington May 16. "The United States and Turkey are partners in addressing a range of critical global and regional issues," it said in a statement, adding that the leaders will discuss "Syria, trade and economic cooperation, and countering terrorism." Turkey, Jordan and Qatar are key supporters of the Syrian opposition. Syrian state media Thursday criticized Jordan for allegedly hosting U.S. training exercises for Syrian rebels in the country. |
