[Dawn] A gunbattle between security forces and snuffies in the Rashid Gari area of Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
, following an attack on a elite force, has left two coppers and one woman dead.

The gunnies took refuge in a house and exchanged fire with the police force. Explosions were also heard during the fighting.

by security forces after the operation was successfully concluded. The suicide jackets taken from their possession have also been defused.

Three women and two children were also injured in the cross firing. The dear departed coppers have been identified as Misbah and Wahab.

The Capital City Police Officer Liaqat Ali Khan speaking to media said, "we had information that there were some gunnies in the Rasheed Gari and we had launched a search operation and reached this house.

"On spotting the police the snuffies opened fire on them and threw hand grenades killing two officers," he added.

He said that one of the suicide bombers went kaboom! after which the house collapsed leaving a woman buried under the debris.

"The snuffies were trying to sabotage the election process and a huge tragedy has been averted," the CCPO said.

"We had been conducting raids throughout the city and a number of suspects have been arrested," he added.

The CCPO said that they have also arrested two suspects from the area.

The house is owned by one Naveed, but there is no other information if the snuffies had taken refuge in the house or the owners were also involved.

The CCPO said its not clear how many of the snuffies are under the debris but it will be known once removed.
