Haniyeh To Egypt: Reconsider Peace Deal With Israel |
2013-05-25 |
[Jpost] Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh ...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank... on Friday called on the Egyptian government to reconsider or cancel the Camp David peace accords with Israel, Paleostinian news agency Ma'an reported. During noon prayers, the Hamas prime minister also urged Egypt to reopen the Rafah crossing. The Egyptian government closed the crossing following the kidnapping of seven Egyptian soldiers in Sinai in the hopes it pressures the Hamas government to help bring the release of the soldiers. |
