KARACHI: At least eleven people, including a lawyer and his two sons and a political worker, were killed in separate acts of violence in the city on Tuesday.

A worker of the Muttahida Organising Committee was shot dead in Noorani Basti within the limits of Zaman Town police station. Police officials said that deceased Rashid was standing outside his house when unidentified armed bikers fired at him at close range. Resultantly, he sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot. His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) for autopsy. Police has yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing.

An employee of a private Internet Service Provider was gunned down within the Zaman Town police remits. Police officials said that Taimur Rizvi, 25, was shot dead by armed men in 100-Quarters area when he arrived there to supply an Internet device. A bookshop owner was shot dead in Orangi Town. Police officials said that the victim, identified as Saeed Baig, was at his shop when armed riders fired at him indiscriminately, killing him on the spot.

A teashop owner was shot dead in C-1 area within Super Market Police remits. Police officials said that an armed pillion rider sprayed bullets on Zar Wali, 40, when he was standing outside his tea stall, killing him on the spot. Police said that deceased lived in Ilyas Goth, Liquatabad. A man was shot dead in Orangi Town. Police officials said that Faisal Imam, 30, ran a beauty parlour and a cosmetic shop within his house. Gunmen targeted him in the house over unexplained reasons.

A young woman was found dead near from ICI Bridge on Maripur within the premises of Docks Police Station. According to police the unidentified culprits threw the victimÂ’s body from a running car and escaped. The woman was shot multiple times, while the motive behind the killing could not be ascertained.

The body of a young man stuffed in a gunny bag was found from near a hotel on Maripur Road within the limits of Kalri Police Station. Police officials said that the victim was shot and killed and his body bore several marks of torture. The body was moved to Edhi morgue for identification after medico-legal formalities at the Civil Hospital. Another man, Ayub, 28, was stabbed to death inside his cattle farm in Mureed Goth, Steel Town. Police officials said that the incident took place when the victim tried to catch a robber who was trying to escape from a nearby house.

Meanwhile, attackers shot dead a lawyer and his two sons aged 12 and 15 in a suspected sectarian attack, police said. The men, on a motorbike, gunned down high court lawyer Kausar Saqlain and his sons Owais Abbas and Mohammad Abbas as he took them to school. “Apparently it seems a sectarian killing,” Iqbal Mahmood, the Karachi police chief, told AFP, though he said the case was still under investigation.

The funeral prayers of the deceased were offered in Numaish Chorangi and were attended by lawyers of the Sindh High Court, political leaders and a large number of common people. Sindh High Court Chief Justice Justice Musheer Alam has sought a police report into the murders of Saqlain and his two children.
