Hundreds Turn Out to Protest the Trayvon Martin Verdict
2013-07-22
According to Reuters, in New York a grand total of 2000 people showed up Saturday to protest in favor of Trayvon Martin in the George Zimmerman trial. ThatÂ’s .00024257 of the population of our most populous city. More New Yorkers show up for pizza at RayÂ’s between 6:00 and 6:05 in the evening. (Well, who knows? But you get my point.)

In our second most populous city, my hometown of Los Angeles, the results were even worse, according to the Los Angeles Times. A measly 400 people demonstrated. The totals in Miami, closest big city to the event, were 300.

In other words, the turnout was somewhere between minuscule and puny — maybe, at best, fifteen thousand people nationwide in a country of 314 million. (You do the math on that one…. Okay, I’ll do it. That’s .00005 of the population.)

#6  Rule of thumb on media 'crowd' estimates:

Usually if its a protest for a Liberal/Socialist cause you divide the media estimate by 10. If its a Conservative cause you multiply by (at least) 10.

Once saw a CNN (spit!) report about 'dozens' at a rally in AZ. Later saw a helocopter picture of thousands. Liberal math.

#5  Couple of hundred in LA; the size fluctuated as the demos split up and went off in different directions.

30 in San Berdoo.

#4  Know a guy who handled security at the Saturday morning protest in "da ATL" (Atlanta). Media claimed 3,000, but he estimated it to be a LOT less than that (hundreds).

#2  There were five patrons in the barber shop in my small, Georgia town this morning. No one mentioned it in polite conversation nor did we observed marchers on main street.
