| BBC office in Karachi closed after threats |

| ISLAMABAD: The office of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in Karachi has been closed down after it received threats from an ethnic political party in the city, sources said on Monday. Since the last eight to nine days the staff members of the BBC instead of working in the office have confined themselves to their houses and are working from there, sources further said. South Karachi DIG Ammer Sheikh has visited the BBC office to look into the matter. Sources further said the threats may be a reaction to the documentary on MQM chief Altaf Hussain broadcast by the BBC. The documentary sparked an unprecedented response from the MQM which termed it fake and Taliban-sponsored propaganda. Meanwhile, various journalist bodies have expressed their concern over the closure of the BBC office. |
