[Egypt Independent] Cairo Criminal Court cleared on Saturday 155 suspects accused of committing violence during commemoration of the 40th anniversary of 6 October war. Defendants were accused of assaulting police, damaging public and private properties, rioting, possessing edged-weapons and clashing with citizens and police and armed forces. Once the verdict was announced, attendees in the courtroom chanted and flashed the Rabaa al-Adaweya salute. Others cried and shouted "down with military rule." Security troops cordoned off the court in the morning fearing riots. Qasr al-Nil prosecution had earlier ordered arrest of the suspects pending investigations while a minor was turned in to his family. They were accused of involvement in the riots around Tahrir Square. Suspects were referred to court of urgent matters. |
