Shatah Wrote 'Open Letter' to Rouhani Asking Iran to Help End Hizbullah Role in Syria
2013-12-30
[An Nahar] Slain former finance minister Mohammed Shatah wrote an "open letter" to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani last week, prior to his liquidation in a boom-mobileing in Beirut on Friday, according to the U.S. daily The Wall Street Journal.

Shatah was killed before he could "gather signatures from members of the Lebanese parliament," the WSJ said.

In what he described as a "vision and roadmap," Shatah calls on Iran in the letter to help "neutralize" Leb according to the Baabda Declaration and to contribute to "ending all armed participation by Lebanese groups and parties, including Hizbullah, in the Syrian conflict."

He also called for "establishing effective control by the Lebanese army and security forces over the border with Syria, supported by the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
if needed as permitted under UNSCR 1701."
