2014-01-20
MOGADISHU -- At least two Somali Federal Government soldiers were killed in a landmine explosion in the outskirts of Mogadishu on Sunday as gunmen killed a businessman in Mogadishu's Huriwaa district, Garowe Online reports. Witnesses say that a fighting vehicle carrying soldiers waded into a minefield on the road connecting Afgoye town to Mogadishu, leaving two soldiers dead and wounding three others.

Afgoye major Mahdi Ahmed Hassan told the media that the explosion could have been caused by a roadside bomb.

"The blast was thunderous and I saw plume of black smoke rising over the scene of the explosion, some soldiers were lying on the ground while others were sustaining injuries," said a nearby shopkeeper.

Meanwhile in Mogadishu, unknown assailants shot a well known businessman in Mogadishu's Huriwaa district while he was locking his shop according to witnesses.

"The attackers escaped, he was a well know businessman in SOS neighborhood of Huriwaa district," an eyewitness told the media.
