JSOC commando who saved ‘numerous lives’ in Benghazi seige honored
2014-01-29
[Washington Times] The Army citation reads:

“Without regard for his own safety, Master Sergeant Halbruner’s valorous actions, dedication to duty and willingness to place himself in harm’s way for the protection of others was critical to the success of saving numerous United States civilian lives. Throughout the operation, Master Sergeant Halbruner continually exposed himself to fire as he shepherded unarmed civilians to safety and treated the critically wounded. His calm demeanor, professionalism and courage was an inspiration to all and contributed directly to the success of the mission. Master Sergeant Halbruner’s distinctive accomplishments are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his Command and the United States Army.”

#8  ...this is the kind of thing the Conservatives must continue to, in an uncomplicated (remember, "9th Grade Education" audiences) manner.

Going after Bubba's er, indiscretions, will, per Mrs. Phester, only irritate the ladies at best, and make them feel sorry, if only for their own "Cheatin' Heart" experiences, for "The Pantsuit"...

#7  Long as we're hunchin' here, could be a completely unnecessary leak of paperwork, as a kind of eff you Hillary, Obama, and State. Not to mention anybody in the DoD (Panetta) who said help was not available.

#6  C2 node for other SMU ops in the AO. Not uncommon for 2 or 3 of these cats to be hanging around. Posted by Bangkok Billy

RGR RGR. Be nice to know his MOS. But as a MSG, he prolly had 4 or 5. "Hanging around"....yep, somebody has to know how to 'call home' when the INMARSAT takes a dump :-)

#5  My hunch is that he was NOT part of the vanilla SF security team. Likely AFO or a part of small C2 node for other SMU ops in the AO. Not uncommon for 2 or 3 of these cats to be hanging around.

#4  Correct Richard. Another thing that is strange. Who leaked the award certificate? JSOC operator's (Special Mission Unit or SMU) files are kept separately from the big army, cloistered (with documents classified). Was he part of that SF security detail assigned to the Embassy as Pappy has suggested, or was he indeed SMU ?

#3  Pappy,

If this guy is part of another team, is it a team we haven't been told about, one not referenced in the reports? I watched the October hearings, which didn't get as much hype as the later ones, although the information was pretty heavy. Nothing about active duty types involved.
IIRC, this is the only active duty military type to be mentioned. We have ex Navy Seals. But this is the first serving troop I can recall.
Thicker and thicker.

#2  Doesn't appear DoD cleared this with Hillary

Obvious summation: there were either remaining elements of the embassy security/advisory team, or more likely, a team or elements of a team already in-country.

Ima thinkern Klingon vice DOD.
