Two killed, over dozen wounded in four Lyari blasts on Baloch Culture Day
2014-03-04
[DAWN] KARACHI: Two young men were killed and over a dozen persons, including women and kiddies, maimed in three separate kabooms and a rocket attack in the Storied Baghdadi and Chakiwara areas of Lyari
...one of the eighteen constituent towns of the city of Karachi. It is the smallest town by area in the city but also the most densely populated. Lyari has few schools, substandard hospitals, a poor water system, limited infrastructure, and broken roads. It is a stronghold of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party. Ubiquitous gang activity and a thriving narcotics industry make Lyari one of the most disturbed places in Karachi, which is really saying a lot....
on Sunday, when Baloch Culture Day was observed.

Police and hospital officials said certain criminals lobbed a grenade in Shah Beg Lane in Storied Baghdadi, wounding five men.

In another incident in Chakiwara, seven people were maimed when an bomb went off in the Saifi Bagh area.

"We received two young men brought dead and 10 injured, including women, from Storied Baghdadi and Chakiwara," said medico-legal officer of the Civil Hospital Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
(CHK), Dr Zaryab Khawaja.

The doctor said that relatives took away the bodies of Naseer Nazir and Hanif Mohammed without medico-legal formalities. He said the dead had sustained pellet wounds.

Officials said it was a locally made grenade containing pellets.

One maimed person, Kamran, who received a pellet wound on his right leg, said that it was the second time that he was maimed in a grenade attack in recent times.

He said an X-ray report showed that a pellet of the previous attack was still in his body. He said the maimed had been lying in the Saifi Bagh area for 20 to 25 minutes, but law-enforcement agencies personnel did not arrive there.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
this comment irked a policeman standing at the emergency department of the CHK, who said the police were performing their duty and when the police potted suspected gangsters in 'encounters' certain people held protest demonstrations against them.

The Storied Baghdadi police official said that the dear departed men were passers-by.

The official said a woman and a girl were among the three maimed, but their condition was out of danger.

Some of the victims in both the explosive attacks were members of the Bohra community, whose members arrived at the CHK and shifted the maimed persons to private hospitals after first medical aid.

The Chakiwara police official said the purpose of the attacks was to sabotage Baloch Culture Day being observed in Lyari on Sunday.

The officer said certain criminals by resorting to such attacks wanted to terrorise the people to restrain them from taking part in a main rally in Sarbazi Mohalla. He said elected politicians appeared active in observing the day.

On Sunday evening, miscreants fired a rocket, which landed on a rooftop in Singu Lane, causing injuries to two girls and a woman, said Chakiwara SHO Yasin Gujjar. The maimed were taken to the CHK.

In a grenade attack on Shah Bukhari Road a man was maimed.

Some of the maimed in the four attacks were identified as Abida, 4; Zainab, 6; Jamila Ayaz, Sakina, Shabana Jalil, Asma, Mohammad Akram, 45, and Mufazal.
