Suspected pirate leader killed in RAB 'gunfight'
2014-04-04
[Dhaka Tribune] An alleged ringleader of sea robbers' gang was rubbed out in a "shootout" with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Urir Char in Sandwip upazila of Chittagong yesterday morning.
How do you say "Yar, me hearties" in Bengali?
Very carefully - one missed dipthong and you've invited them to dinner.
The dear departed was identified as Shahadat Hossain alias Jasu, 30.
How do you say "He's dead, Jim"?
Meanwhile,
...back at the saw mill, Scarface Al had tied Little Nell to the log and was about to turn on the buzz saw...
police found three bodies in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Sandwip, but they could not confirm their identity, said Mohammad Shahidullah, additional superintendent of police of Chittagong (north zone). Local sources claimed that the bodies were of three other robbers killed during the "shootout."
"Lookidat, Nurul! You can see light right through his brisket!"
Major Md Shahed Hasan Rajib, commanding officer of RAB11 Comilla Camp, told the Dhaka Tribune that a gang of sea robberswere locked in the shootout with the elite force when its ringleader, Jasu, was rubbed out around 10:30am.
"10:30am"? The guys are running a little late - like about eight hours.
"Yar! Our beloved leader is titzup! We must have Dire Revenge™!"
"We had conducted drives at Urir Char since March 30 night to catch Jasu and his cohorts as we had information that they had taken position there ahead of March 31 upazila polls at Sandwip," he said.
Is Sandwip in the Sunderbans? Is it ruled with an iron fist by the Earl of Sandwip?
"The RAB personnel cordoned off the entire island to capture the pirates," he said, adding that the gang of robbers had also tried to flee the island.
"They're cordoning off the entire island! Flee fer yer lives!"
When they tried to capture the robbers about 5am the gang members opened fire on the lawmen, forcing them to retaliate, he claimed.
"You may fire when ready, Sgt. Shafiq!"
The robberswere compelled to take shelter in a nearby forest off the shore.
"Shelter! We gotta have shelter!"
"Row for that nearby forest!"
"Rrrraaaarrrr!"
"Not that one! The other one!"

While the robbers were trying to leave the island by boats and trawlers, they again fought with the law enforcers at 10:30am.
Open fire again, men!"
Ah, the obligatory 5-hour break for tea and the licking of wounds.
An unidentified robber was struck down in his prime during the shootout.
"Aaaaiiieee! I am undone!"
The RAB official said the cohorts of the dear departed managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...
and the law enforcers identified the body of the dear departed as Shahadat Hossain Jasu with the help of locals.
"Yep. That's him. I'd recognize that thumb anywhere!"
RAB recovered a revolver, two single-barrel guns and huge ammunition from the spot.
"Wowzers! Look at the size of that ammunition!"
"How did they fit it all on that spot?"

Local sources claimed that RAB men picked up Jasu along with three of his cohorts from the island on March 31 night. Four robbers were killed during the shootout with RAB men at Urir Char on Wednesday and three bodies recovered from the Bay were of the robbers, they alleged.
You're saying the shootout wasn't quite that dramatic?
Lt Col Tareq Sayeed, commanding officer of RAB 11, refuted the allegations. Jasu was involved in robbery at sea, killing, abduction and other crimes at Urir Char, Hatiya and Sandwip in Noakhali and Chittagong, police sources said.
"So there. And keep yer nose clean!"

#3  Wonder if the new and improved RAB, now with nautical prowess, could be engaged to assist in the search for MH370; might be hiding in one their many upazilas.

might even get a lead on Amelia's whereabouts......
