[Yawn] Keystone Delayed Again
2014-04-21
The Obama administration on Friday extended the review period on the Keystone XL pipeline, perhaps pushing back a final decision on the disputed project until after the Nov. 4 congressional elections.

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., said the State Department did the right thing in pushing back the review, "given the unprecedented number of comments from the public."

Rachel Wolf, a spokesperson for a group called the All Risk, No Reward Coalition, said that "every day without Keystone XL is a day that we keep high-carbon tar sands in the ground."
What a dope. It's already moving by rail, to refineries equipped for the heavy crude, on the east and left coasts. Bakken light crude is riding the rails to the gulf-coast refineries. Keystone has been rendered irrelevant, as was foreseen at this very site.

#10  Very plausible Capsu, very. I'm am convinced they've muffled General Petraeus by hanging an open-ended DoJ investigation over his head.

#9  Besoeker,
Wow, a blinding flash of the obvious just shook my shoulder through my monitor.
The Beast gets the Keystone issue and access to OFA's black room predictive analytics in return for sticking the story on Benghazi.

#8  He'll have more flexibility after the (midterm) elections, rj.

#7  If Obama votes yes on Keystone the environmentalists stay home on the midterms (or vote to the left of the Democrats). If he votes no on Keystone the Unions stay home on the midterms (or vote Republican).

Punt until after the election and hope the decision is clear at that point is the political cowards choice.

#6  How come oil from Canada is bad for the environment but oil shipped here from mad antisemitic monarchies via tanker is ok?

Because it isn't midterm elections yet?

#5  Appears the Keystone issue is being saved for the Hildebeast. She and Slick are all for the pipeline. She needs an issue like Keystone in order to appear moderate and focused on the economy. Champ must stay the course on Keystone to pacify his leftist, green base, and faithful party contributors. I doubt if anything will be done on it in the short term.

#4  Yeah, why should we refine it and burn it when the Chinese can refine it and burn it for us but with even more pollution?

#3  These morons just don't understand. The Canadian oil will be extracted and eventually turned into CO2. The only thing the Keystone pipeline will do is make it easier to get the crude to refineries in the US.

Without the pipeline, the crude oil will shipped via rail, or shipped to China.
