Somali Govt troops repel militant attack |

QORYOOLEY, Somalia -- The Somali Federal Government forces repelled Al Shabaab attack on Lower Shabelle regional district of Qoryooley on Sunday afternoon, Garowe Online reports. Local reports say, armed militants reportedly fired mortar shells onto military bases, followed by heavy gunfire between soldiers manning the bases and Al Shabaab fighters. The clashes lasted for nearly an hour but no casualty figures have been independently verified to the media. Qoryooley Mayor Abdishakur Adan Dhegay told GO that they deterred planned Al Shabaab attack. On 22nd of March, Somali Natinoal Army along with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces dislodged Al Shabaab from Qoryoley. The allied forces made advances against the militants in central and southwestern Somalia. |
