Obama warned about VA wait-time problems during 2008 transition
2014-05-19
[Wash Times] The Obama administration received clear notice more than five years ago that VA medical facilities were reporting inaccurate waiting times and experiencing scheduling failures that threatened to deny veterans timely health care — problems that have turned into a growing scandal.

Veterans Affairs officials warned the Obama-Biden transition team in the weeks after the 2008 presidential election that the department shouldnÂ’t trust the wait times that its facilities were reporting.
On December 7, 2008, then-President-elect Champ announced he would nominate retired General and fellow Hawaiian Eric Shinseki as Director of the VA. Shinseki was Champ's 'fix it man.' This morning's news reports that VA appointment records are now being quietly destroyed nationwide.

#10  This "scandal" is about highly paid VA doctors seeing less than 10% of the patients that a doctor in private practice sees.

A better comparison would be the volume of a doctor that sees Medicare/Medicaid/Indian Health patients.

Oh, and strictly just out of curiosity, do you know what the GS level of a VA doctor is?

#9  As much as I hate to admit it; I have to give Bambi props for getting the VA's budget bumped. Only bad thing appears that the VA management opted to spend the bucks on anything other than increased care and support for our Vets. Now this is where Bambi failed, he sent the money and then went back to sleep....

The question is why were the administrators of the hospitals fudging the books rather than cracking down on these slackers and getting bonuses to the high performers.

#6  This is what King Putt said when campaigning.
“As President, I won’t stand for hundreds of thousands of veterans waiting for benefits. We’ll hire additional claims workers,” Obama said. “We’ll bring together veterans groups and the VA to work out a claims process that is fair and fast. And instead of shutting veterans out, we’ll make sure that our disabled vets receive the benefits they deserve, and we’ll allow all veterans back into the VA health care system. And we’ll have a simple policy when it comes to homeless veterans: zero tolerance. We’ll expand housing vouchers. We’ll set up a new supportive services program to prevent at-risk veterans and their families from sliding into homelessness. We’ll stand with veterans in their hour of need, just as they have stood up for us.” — Sen. Barack Obama, Oct 2007

#2  headline should have been

'was warned' or 'was told'

not

'warned'

the latter implies Obama was hypocritical instead of simply oblivious

#1  The MSM could have been following this all along, since 2008, or earlier. But noooo...
