8 Insurgents Killed, 18 Injured in Kunduz Operation |

[Tolo News] At least eight Taliban hard boyz were killed and 18 others were maimed in an Afghan-led operation in the past 24 hours, officials said. Two Afghan security soldiers also were maimed in the operation. The operation was launched in the Dasht-e-Archi district of the province to clear hard boyz ahead of the June 14 runoff, said Mohmmad Jawid Salim, a front man for a unit of the Afghan Special Forces based in Kunduz. Dasht-e-Archi district, bordering Tajikistan, has been a hotbed for the Taliban insurgency for the past several years. There are dozens of military operations ongoing across the country ahead of the mid-June elections to ensure a greater turnout. Last week, the Ministry of Interior said that 75 military operations were ongoing across Afghanistan. With the annual fighting season now well underway, some are concerned security could prove a bigger issue during the runoff than it did in the first round. |
