Netanyahu sacks top military official amid offensive on Gaza
2014-07-16
[Iran Press TV] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fired the regime's deputy military affairs minister, Danny Danon.

According to Israeli media, Netanyahu dismissed Danon after he publicly criticized the premier's decisions during Israel's attack on the besieged Gazoo Strip.

Danon, who is a young member of Netanyahu's Likud party, criticized Tel Aviv's acceptance of a ceasefire offered by Egypt earlier in the day, saying, "Once again Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, is setting the tone for this operation."

The Israeli prime minister said the top military official's remarks show a "great degree of irresponsibility" at the height of a military campaign against the coastal sliver, adding, "Personally... I have decided to remove him from his post."

Israel's cabinet met early on Tuesday and ministers voted 6-2 in favor of accepting the truce. Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Economy Minister Naftali Bennett, who have voiced support for aggression against Gazoo, voted against the proposal.
