Casualties after govt soldiers open gunfire in Afgoye |
2014-07-30 |
A minimum of one person was killed and another was wounded after government soldiers fired at civilians that were taking part in a peace demonstration in Afgoye. The people in the demonstrations were reported to have been public commuter drivers that were protesting the district administration for issuing taxes and insurance collections. It is not the first time that government soldiers have opened gunfire and killed or injured innocent civilians in Afgoye. |

#4 I am, sadly, geographically retarded. So for a great many of the articles involving African countries I check on a map to make sure I'm putting it in the correct region. Searching "map image [city/country/upazila name here]" should give the reader or poster some useful possibilities. I've learnt a great deal more about Bangladeshi upazilas than I ever thought possible to know, f'r instance, though it turns out such knowledge is also easily forgotten. |

#3 Most people don't have any trouble placing Bengazi, or Chicago, etc, but 'Afgoye' is a bit more obscure for most of us Consider it a learning experience. |

#2 fair enough, but it's in "Africa Horn". The source is Shabelle.net, which is a Somalia propaganda NPR. And Afgoye has been in the news lately = Somalia |

#1 It would help a lot if people would include the name of the country where an incident took place, unless the city is truly world famous. Most people don't have any trouble placing Bengazi, or Chicago, etc, but 'Afgoye' is a bit more obscure for most of us. It's really distracting to be reading the headlines, trying to see what all has happened since the last time I checked, and have to click on the article just to find out the 'where'. |
