Kohat facing shortage of policemen
2014-09-04
[DAWN] KOHAT: The acute shortage of police personnel in the Kohat division, having borders with three tribal agencies and two districts of Punjab, is seriously hampering efforts to maintain law and order situation in the region.
Oh, c'mon. They couldn't have killed them all?
Kohat division DIG Dr Ishtiaq Marwat told Dawn on Tuesday that he had been requesting the government through central police offices that at least 1,000 coppers were required for deployment at sensitive installations like sites of oil and gas companies, cop shoppes and along the boundaries with the tribal belt.

He said that cop shoppes were also understaffed having only five to six coppers, as a result policing in the district was severely affected. "Due to shortage of personnel, patrolling large areas, checking smuggling, conducting raids and dealing with other affairs is becoming acutely difficult," he added.

Dr Marwat said that the government had inducted only 100 coppers on temporary basis in Kohat, Hangu and Karak districts after the sectarian violence during last Muharram, which claimed three lives.
