Embassy rejects Abu Sahmain's order to close
2014-09-06
[Libya Herald] The Libyan embassy in the UAE has dismissed an order from Nuri Abu Sahmain, the head of the former General National Congress, to close.

Earlier this this week, Nuri Abu Sahmain, who claims to still be Libya's commander-in-chief and effective head of state, ordered the Libyan embassies in Egypt and the UAE to close because of the two countries' alleged involvement in bombing raids last month against Operation Libya Dawn

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Libyan Ambassador to the UAE, Aref Al-Nayad, expressed surprise at the instruction, saying that such orders had no validity. The House of Representatives was the only legitimate legislature in the country, he declared. The embassy took its instructions from it and the government of Prime Minister Abdullah Al-Thinni with whom it was in constant contact.

The Libyan embassy in Cairo has ignored the demand.

Earlier, Abu Sahmain "sacked" Libya's UN representative, Ibrahim Al-Dabashi. He too has ignored the order.
