James Foley's mother 'appalled' by U.S. government handling of case
2014-09-12
[CNN] The mother of James Foley -- an American journalist beheaded by ISIS militants -- said she is "embarrassed and appalled" by how the U.S. government dealt with her son's case, telling CNN that officials even suggested family members could be charged if they raised ransom to free him.

"I think our efforts to get Jim freed were an annoyance" to the U.S. government, Diane Foley told CNN's Anderson Cooper in an interview that aired Thursday. "It didn't seem to be in (U.S.) strategic interest, if you will."
Nearly everything the regime undertakes is "embarrassing and appalling." Why should this be an exception ?

#8  I was appalled at how poorly Foley died. Blaming his family and his country. Weak. That's my right brain response; Frank G more thoughtful and spot on.

What happened would have happened the same way with any administration. The news treatment would have varied, though.

Two years ago, the story wouldn't have seen the light of day. It's only getting airplay now because the "administration" has become a disappointment to the left.

#6  Paying ransom is spraying water on a grease fire. Our trade record ain't so great either, giving an entire infield for a twilight catcher on the IR list. It would be a bit frustrating to know there was a chance of rescue but summer golf vacay.

#5  welllll.... Mr. Foley went to the hotspots and finally got burned. I understand the family's grief, but the several million dollar ransom would've only funded more ISI activities and incentivizes kidnapping more Americans. The prisoners they routinely demand release (like Aafia Siddiqui) are the worst of the worst. A better tactic would be to ArcLight* a terrorist-held area and execute one of our high-demand prisoners everytime an American is harmed
