Retired Gen. John R. Allen in Line to Lead Effort vs. ISIS |
2014-09-13 |
[NYT] GIDDA, Saudi Arabia John R. Allen, the retired Marine general who served as the top American commander in Afghanistan, has been picked by the Obama administration to coordinate the international effort against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, a senior administration official said Thursday. General Dempsey, Commanders USCENTCOM, USSOCOM, JSOC, and the entire Pentagon now under the bus. I know I can depend upon Allen, he owes me one. It's the Chicago way. |

#13 No, Mattis is quite capable of coming up with that on his own. And yes, I'll go with Besoeker's analysis. Mr. Obama's already placed two of his cabal in senior Pentagon positions (leadership and policy) to get a handle on the Pentagon. That hasn't worked out well enough, hence Allen. |

#10 Stinking non-ASCII characters. Obviously an attempt by foreign elements to sap and impurify our web pages. Curious that they don't show up on the editing/preview pages. |

#9 This General Mathis? The one who was able to help the Sunnis in Anbar Provence see reason? “I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all.” Grabbing a retired guy to run the not-war against ISIS is the strangest Obama vs The Military move yet. And there have been some 'interesting' ones. |

#8 Notice that nobody's talked to Jim "Mad Dog" Mattis? |

#6 Think Geheime Staatspolizei or political commissar Ship. Men of the ranks and their leadership can no longer be trusted. Alerting the media to the ISIS 'Junior Varsity' threat and forcing the Champ to action, comes with a price. |

#5 Besoeker, you're telling me something, maybe big, but I am missing it. |

#4 Despite a vast legion of loyal sycophants, Champ has a 'Joseph Miller' leak problem at the Pentagon. In addition to ISIS, Gen. Allen may have..... 'other duties as assigned.' Joseph Miller is the pen name for a ranking Department of Defense official with a background in U.S. special operations and combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has worked in strategic planning. Link |

#3 I doubt he'll be "recalled" and put back in uniform. He'll more than likely be given a temp Senior Executive Service position working out of the inner ring of the Pentagon, reporting directly to POTUS. |

#2 Bringing General Allen, a "retired general" out of retirement? Did Obama go too far in purging the upper military ranks so there were no dissenting opinions or war-fighters left? Stanley McChrystal and others going to come back too? |
