Rand Paul: It's 'a mistake to arm' militants in Syria
2014-09-16
[Iran Press TV] US Senator Rand Paul, who is seen as a potential Republican presidential candidate in the 2016 election, says it is "a mistake to arm moderate" gunnies in Syria to defeat the ISIL terrorist group.

"It's a mistake to arm them. Most of the arms we've given to the so-called moderate rebels have wound up in the hands of ISIS, because ISIS simply takes it from them, or it's given to them, or we mistakenly actually give it to some of the radicals," Paul said on Monday, using an alternative acronym for the group.

The Pentagon plans to train and arm 5,000 gunnies in Syria as part of the B.O. regime's long-term strategy to confront ISIL.

#7  Can we trust them? Same comment applies to the present administration with one difference; the answer is NO and the record is also not good.

Similar comment as others: "Can we trust them?" The record is not good.

#5  I would only arm the Kurds and Israeli's. Everyone else has a lot to prove before I trust them.

Being a victim today is insufficient as I've noticed today's victim often becomes tomorrow's oppressor.

#4  Or, you know, you just finish arming and training a faction, and then someone suicide-bombs their entire command structure, leaving the rank-and-file to follow their bliss, mostly into the arms of ISIS along with all their weapons and training.

#3  I recommend giving them ammo - or at least the fast-moving parts - but not the arms.

#1  Paul pointed to reports of a non-aggression pact between the so-called moderate Syrian turbans and ISIL murderous Moslems over the weekend.

Paul is correct [insert Rantburg broken watch axiom here]. If one had any doubts about the arming of so-called 'moderates' the recent non-aggression pacts should have convinced even the least skeptical of the futility of such an effort.
