Bomb blast kills two policemen in Cairo
2014-09-21
Cairo - A bomb blast near the Egyptian foreign ministry killed two policemen on Sunday, state television said.

A Reuters witness earlier heard a blast in the area and smoke was seen rising briefly from the neighbourhood where the foreign ministry is located. Sirens were heard and people were running.

The explosion occurred on a sidewalk in the neighbourhood of Boulaq Abu Eila, under the May 15 Bridge, according to state television and the state news agency.
Ynet adds:
A bomb blast beside Egypt's foreign ministry killed three policemen on Sunday, including a key witness in a trial of deposed Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.
Imagine that!
The blast, the worst attack in Cairo for months, killed two police lieutenant colonels and a recruit, according to the foreign ministry. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the operation resembled those carried out by Islamist insurgents seeking to topple the US-backed government, underlining security challenges facing President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Another Ynet article states:
A roadside bomb went off on a busy downtown Cairo street on Sunday, killing two policemen and a passer-by near the foreign ministry, Security officials said.

They said the explosion targeted a police checkpoint near the back entrance of the Nile-side ministry building, and that another two people were wounded in the blast.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
48 hour rule. At this point we can be pretty sure there was an explosion, at least two people died, and possibly Ansar Bayt al Maqdis was involved.
