Air strikes hit makeshift IS refineries in Syria |
2014-09-29 |
[ARABNEWS] Air strikes believed to have been carried out by US-led forces hit three makeshift oil refineries in Syria's Raqqa province early on Sunday as part of an assault to weaken Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allaharound with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not reallyMoslems.... (IS) bully boys, a monitoring group said. The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attacks occurred shortly after midnight, adding that they also hit a plastic factory. |

#7 Doubt it's casinghead gas - that stuff is viciously explosive and if there was enough gathered together to matter our missile hits would've looked like MOABs. (See Ardmore, OK, 1915.) As best I can tell, they are referring to portable mini-refineries, but I've never seen any. Teapots on a trailer would be a good description. If you're not too concerned with efficiency or quality control, fractional distillers (modified moonshine stills) are simple and reliable. |

#5 Could be 'drip gas' from a well, or very basic field expedient processing. |

#4 Glenmore what do you figure these makeshift refineries are? Teapots on a trailer or some such? |

#3 The interview anjam chodery on cnn had a very candid moment. That the true believers consider reporters as spys, and that reporters seem to think that they are some sort of protected referee class. Neither one exists in the other one's world. |

#2 sawing off heads of folks whose only crime was being a journalist? Well, that should not warrant head removal but it's not entirely insignificant.... |
