U.N. Announces Meaningless Number of Dead by Violence in Iraq Last Month
2014-10-02 | ||
The United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said at least 854 civilians and 265 members of the security forces were killed in September, and close to 2,000 injured. The figure was lower than in July and August (1,737 and 1,420 respectively)
The western region saw some of the worst violence in September, including attacks by jihadist-led hard boyz on army bases which are feared to have left hundreds dead. Many deaths are believed to go unreported and hundreds of people are still considered missing across the country. UNAMI also said it was unable to account for those who died of causes related to the violence, including the displaced who have perished from lack of access to water, food or medication.
