Iraq
Anti-ISIS operations cost US $1.1 billion
2014-10-08
The Pentagon has spent as much as $1.1 billion on US military operations against ISIS militants in Iraq and Syria since the mission began in mid-June, including more than $62 million alone in Navy airstrikes and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

US Central Command, in data released on Monday, said that the Navy has dropped roughly 185 munitions, including 47 cruise missiles launched from ships in the region.

Central Command said Air Force fighter jets have far exceeded those numbers, launching close to 1,000 munitions. The data released on Monday broke out the $62 million spent on Navy munitions, but provided no cost estimates for Air Force munitions. The bulk of the Navy costs were for the 47 Tomahawk cruise missiles fired by American warships in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea that targeted the Khorasan Group, an Al Qaeda cell, in eight locations west of the city of Aleppo in Syria. The group was said to be plotting imminent attacks on American and Western interests, and it was one of the key targets two weeks ago when the United States first begaan airstrikes into Syria.

The Pentagon has struggled to come up with specific cost figures for the Iraq and Syria operations. Officials say it has cost an average of $7 million to $10 million daily since June.

The costs of the operations began at a much lower rate in June then escalated as airstrikes began in northern Iraq on August 8. In late August, the Pentagon said the cost was an average of $7.5 million daily. The airstrikes were expanded to Syria in September, prompting the latest, higher average estimates.

There are currently more than 1,300 US troops in Iraq, including security personnel, staff at two joint operations centers in Baghdad and Irbil, and advisory teams that are working with Iraqi brigades and headquarters units.

A coalition of about 40 nations is participating in the US-led operations, including several Arab nations that are conducting airstrikes in Syria. Several European nations are participating in the airstrikes in Iraq, but not in Syria.
Once again it's all up to Uncle Sugar...

#6  It would have cost less to have kept a combat brigade or two in Iraq.

Usual penny rich/pound foolish thinking of the liberals. It is never worth a nickel to stop chaos but it is always worth a butt load of money to clean up afterwards.

AND we are going to spend a lot of money and blood cleaning up after this administration.

The sad commentary is that Joe Biden would have made a better POTUS than nowhere man.

#2  Ditto former US SecDef Leon Panetta in interview.

* E.G. RUSSIA TODAY > FIGHTING ISIS: US$1.1BILYUHN [since mid-June 2014], "30 YEARS OF WAR" TO COME.

The US-NATO/EU must not underestimate the ISIS/ISIL threat to TURKEY.

ISIS-CONTROLLED TURKEY = POST-SHAH PEOPLE'S ISLAMIST REVOLUTIONARY REPUBLIC OF IRAN, SAVE MUCH WORSE.

As per the MSM-Net, iff the US ever feared the post-Shah, Revolutionary Iran under Ayatollah Khomeini back in the 1980's, + Russians fear a resurgent, Nuke-armed "Neo-Ottoman" Turkey, THEIR FEARS WILL BE WORSE VEE AN ISIS-CONTROLLED NUCLEAR TURKEY [2030-2040/2050]. DITTO PER ISIS-CONTROLLED NUKE-ARMED IRAN.

THE ABOVE IS NOT COUNTING THE FUTURE US ELITE SOLDIER-CONVERT TO ISLAM OR RADICAL ISLAM KNOWN AS THE "ISLAMIC MAHDI/HIDDEN IMAM".

-----------

And so it begins ... ...

* FREEREPUBLIC, TOPIX > OBAMA WANTS IRAN TO HAVE NUKES.

The Commies + aligned may indeed succeed in forcing Communism, Totalitariansim, + Sovietism, etc. on the US + West, but at the price of losing most or all of the rest of the World to Islam or Radical Islam = Allan-based Theo-Socialism + Global [Nuclear?] Jihad.

THUS, OF COURSE, THE COMMIES + ALIGNED BELIEVE THEY'LL BE SAFE FROM [Nuclear]JIHADI ATTACK + CONQUEST ALA THE NEVER-ENDING "GREAT GAME"???

[1960's-1970's = 2014 "INTERSTELLAR" MOVIE here].

But I digress ...
