Turkey would oppose US arms transfers to Kurd fighters
2014-10-20 | |
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country would not agree to any US arms transfers to Kurdish fighters battling militants in Syria. Turkey views the Kurdish fighters as an extension of the PKK, which has waged a 30-year insurgency in Turkey and is designated a terrorist group.
Turkey's opposition to arms transfers could hamper the US-led coalitions' efforts to fight the extremists and further complicate relations between Turkey and the United States. The United States has said it has engaged in intelligence sharing with Kurdish fighters and officials have not ruled out future arms transfers to the Kurdish fighters.

#4 How about we arm the Iraqi Kurds and they just supply their cousins.. Turks had a chance to play ball. They did chose not to, and chose to instead continue their bigoted and racist policies against non Turks inside Turkey. Ask the Armenians how well it works to trust the Turks. They were not secure from this until they got their own country. Kurds will need to do the same. |

#2 Yes, we've been sharing information regarding weapons transfers and events in Libya, Iraq, and Syria for quite some time. Prime Minister ErdoÄŸan and Hakan Fidan, chief of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MÄ°T) could probably provide a great deal of background [some good, some very, very bad]..... if pressed.
