ANDREW A. MICHTA
European leaders are finally beginning to admit to themselves that Putin's goal is to decompose NATO and alter Europe's normative framework. But will they do anything about it?
No, of course not. They're Y'urp-peons, after all. Even as they recognize that Putin is a threat and that Islamic-sponsored terrorism is an existential threat, they continue to cut their defense budgets and welcome more immigrants.
The author notes that today 75% of NATO's tasks are shouldered by Uncle Sugar, compared to only half a decade ago. Of course -- we've acquiesced and the Euros don't want to bother. Want the Euros to take on the heavy lifting? Walk away. Until we credibility threaten to do just that nothing will change. |
