Judge Reverses Typhoid Mary's 3 Foot 'Quarantine'
2014-10-31
Unbelievable - via Hot Air.
Maine officials cannot force a quarantine on a nurse who treated West African Ebola patients, a Maine judge ruled Friday.

District Court Judge Charles C. LaVerdiere rejected a court order drawn up by Maine health officials that would have required nurse Kaci Hickox to avoid public places and keep a three-foot buffer with other people until Nov. 10, when a 21-day incubation period for the virus will end.

LaVerdiere said Hickox should continue self-monitoring for Ebola symptoms.

Hickox treated Ebola patients in Sierra Leone and returned to Newark Liberty International Airport with a slight fever. She was quarantined in a tent and then allowed to return to her home in Maine.

Hickox has defied quarantine orders by Maine officials, saying she is showing no symptoms of the disease and is following self-monitoring guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

#8  self-monitoring - oh right.

So suppose she develops a fever over the next day or two.

Do you seriously think she will report it? Heck I doubt she'll even tell her boyfriend.

#5  There was a report today that Hickox's roomate in Sierra Leone contracted ebola while there. There seems to be a good reason, authorities were concerned.

#3  Hickox treated Ebola patients in Sierra Leone

Do we know what she was actually doing over there? The only official statements I've seen were incredibly vague. If she was just a pencil-pusher, this is no big deal. If she had contact with infected patients, this is nuts.

#2  Judge LeMerdiere's decision aside, it wouldn't have had to come judgement if Lit'l Miss Caca had acted like a responsible adult. Her total disregard for proceedures and general safety behavior makes me question her effectiveness while in Africa.

#1  LaVerdiere... sounds French Canadian. His reversal should come as no surprise.
