ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi seriously injured by air strike according to Al Arabiya
2014-11-09
[Iraq News] Arab tribal sources confirmed to Al Arabiya news that ISIS leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
, was maimed and that a number of senior ISIS leaders were killed by coalition air strikes carried out today at the border city of Qaim, Iraq.

MP for Iraq's Anbar province, Mohammed al-Karbouli, said that "on Saturday evening, international coalition aircraft targeted a meeting of ISIS leaders in Qaim city located west of Anbar which resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries and caused severe confusion among ISIS members who then cut off all roads in Qaim in order to transport their maimed to the hospital that was packed with the maimed and body parts."

Security sources in Anbar expected al-Baghdadi to be among those who were targeted by coalition aircraft, however, his exact fate remains unknown.

#3  "#2 Sounds like intel is getting better if this is true. On-the ground spec ops doing the targeting?"

Nooooooo, whatever gave you that idea? There are no boots on the ground. :-)

Seriously, yes it does sound like intel is improving, my first thought too.

Long-term, CT is just live-target training unless COIN runs concurrently.

#1  Don't get too excited. It will take them all of 2 days to pick a new Caliph. OTOH, if they did get a bunch of the bejewled turbans at one go, that _may_ slow down their decision making a little while they sort out the pecking order.
