Clashes Break Out In West Bank Town After Stabbing Attack
2014-12-02
[IsraelTimes] Residents of Beit Fajjar south of Bethlehem clashed with Israeli police Monday, in the wake of a stabbing attack on an Israeli by a 22-year-old woman from the West Bank town.

Police attempted to disperse the rioters with tear gas.

Security forces surrounded the home of Amal Taqatqa before the festivities broke out, shortly after she attacked an Israeli earlier in the day at the nearby Gush Etzion junction south of Jerusalem.

, according to Paleostinian news agency Ma'an.

Taqatqa was shot by soldiers at the scene and was brought to Hadassah-Ein Kerem hospital at death's door. The Paleostinian Ma'an news site said she was affiliated with the Fatah movement.

In 2011, Taqatqa tried to stab a soldier at the same location, according to Ma'an. Her family said at the time that she was mentally disabled.

In July, 14-year-old Beit Fajjar resident Nasri Taqatqa was killed during festivities between Israeli forces and Paleostinians.

A video reportedly from the scene of the stabbing showed Israeli soldiers from the Kfir infantry brigade firing toward a dark object lying on the ground dozens of meters away, possibly the attacker.

Photos from the scene showed a wood-handled steak knife apparently used as the attack weapon.

Security forces found another knife on the attacker, Ynet reported.

The attack was near the site of a number of a previous terror attacks over recent months. The IDF recently bolstered its presence at the busy junction in the wake of the assaults.
