There's a lot of whitewashing in the article.

"The Left" is not an ex-communist party, it is a communist party.

"The Left" is not the 'heir' or the 'successor' to the Communist Party of East Germany, it is the renamed SED of East Germany.

All of this has to be seen in light of the authoritarian/totalitarian restoration in Eastern Europe. This is not a good development.
