[NY Times] A roadside kaboom struck an army vehicle late Thursday, killing an officer and a soldier in the Sinai Peninsula, security officials said. The attack occurred south of the town of El-Arish, the scene of frequent attacks by gunnies on the security forces. Another soldier was maimed in the blast, officials said. Egypt's military has been battling an insurgency on the peninsula since it ousted President Mohammed Morsi last year and cracked down on his supporters. Militant groups claim their attacks are in retaliation for the government crackdown, which has left hundreds dead and thousands tossed in the slammer
