| NPA cancels release of kidnapped cops |

| [Tempo] The scheduled release today of three kidnapped members of the Philippine National Police in Surigao del Norte was cancelled by the National Democratic Front (NDF). In a statement, the NDF said the cancellation was due to the refusal of the Philippine military to temporarily withdraw their operatives in the area where the release was scheduled to take place. The militants added that the temporary withdrawal was meant for a safe and orderly release of the captured policemen and to avoid possible encounter between the soldiers and the New People's Army (NPA). The police officers were captured by NPA militants in the area on November 12 and 16 last year. |
