[DAWN] The illegal construction of madressahs and mosques in Islamabad caused a loss of Rs1.1 billion to the public exchequer. This was disclosed in an audit report of financial affairs of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for the fiscal year 2012-2013 during the meeting of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday.
The audit report observed that it is the CDA’s responsibility to guard its land against encroachers and take possession of land forcefully by removing encroachers and when necessary demolishing the illegally-constructed buildings on the land. The office of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) estimated that “this resulted in a loss of Rs1.12 billion”. PAC chairman Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah referred this para to Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) for deliberations. After the audit authorities read out the said objection, the PAC chairman Shah said: “It is appropriate to refer this matter to DAC for action.” | |
