| Nigeria's Military Repels Boko Haram's Attack on Maiduguri |

| [VOA News] Nigeria's military says its forces have repelled the latest attempt by Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... fighters to take over the key northeastern city of Maiduguri. Military officials say the attack on Maiduguri was contained, more than 12 hours after Boko Haram laid siege to the city from four different roads. The officials say many forces of Evil were killed during the fighting in the capital of Borno state. Several civilians also died. A VOA news hound, Abdulkareem Haruna, saw hundreds of civilians armed with hunting rifles, clubs and machetes advance toward the battles, saying they want to help the soldiers stop the myrmidons. Separately, security sources say a suicide kaboom targeting a political meeting in the northeastern Nigerian town of Potiskum killed at least seven people. These incidents come two weeks before Nigeria's February 14 general election. Analysts have said Boko Haram will likely make another attempt to take over Maiduguri before that poll. The myrmidon group tried to capture Maiduguri a week ago, but failed. |
