U.N. alarmed by Yemen power vacuum, monitoring situation closely
2015-02-07
[YEMENONLINE.INFO] The United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
is alarmed by what it described as a power vacuum in Yemen after the dominant Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ„¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
movement dissolved parliament on Friday and said a new interim assembly and government would be formed, a U.N. front man said on Friday.

"This power vacuum is of great concern to us," Stephane Dujarric told news hounds. "The Secretary-General (the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon)
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
and all of those who are concerned with Yemen here are following the situation very closely."

He added that U.N. special envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar was now returning to the Yemeni capital Sanaa because of the escalating crisis.
This is more of that "strategic patience" we've been hearing about lately...
